“Skand Mata” is The Fifth Aspect of Maa Durga

सिंहासनगता नित्यं पद्माश्रितकरद्वया  
 शुभदास्तु सदा देवी स्कन्दमाता यशस्विनी

“Skand Mata” is the fifth aspect of Maa Durga and worshiped on the fifth Navratri. Devi Maa is the mother of Kumara Skanda or Kumara Kartikeya also called Lord Murugan thus revered with name 'Skanda mata'.
Goddess Skanda mata mounts on the ferocious lion. Goddess Skanda mata is depicted with four handsand three eyes. In Skand mata image the Lord Skanda in his infant form is always found. She holds him in her lap. Lord Skanda is also known as Kartikeya and brother of Lord Ganesha. carries lotus flowers in her upper two hands. She holds Lord Skanda in her right upper arm and a lotus flower in her right lower hand, which is slightly raised upward. The left upper arm is in a pose of ‘Abhaya Mudra’ and in left lower hand, which is raised, she again holds lotus. She sits on lotus flower and because of that Skanda mata is also known as Goddess Padmasana.
Kumar Skanda was chosen by Gods as their commander in “Deva-Sura Sangram” (the war of gods & demons) against the demons. Lord Murugan’s glory has been narrated in the Puranas and he is referred to as Kumara and Saktidhar. His vehicle being peacock he is also called Mayuravahana.
The complexion of Goddess Skandamata is Shubhra (शुभ्र) which describes her white complexion. Devotees who worship this form of Goddess Parvati get the benefit of worshipping Lord Kartikeya. This quality is possessed only by Skandamata form of Goddess Parvati.
With the grace of goddess Skanda Mata devotees can get powerful Aura like hers. Goddess Skandmata is the diety of the solar system. By worshiping the Maa in the form of Skanda mata, the devotees get all their desires fulfilled. They can enjoy supreme joy even in this very mortal world. They can have an easy way for salvation and spirituality. Their worship automatically includes the worship of Lord Skanda in his child form. So the sadhak should particularly be attentive to her worship. A supernatural aura in the atmosphere is discharged by the goddess and if you worship her with pure heart you can have freedom from all troubles and sufferings. The devotees get immense love and affection from the goddess by worshipping her in this manifestation. You can be blessed by her for all your wishes to be fulfilled. You can get relief from all kinds of ailments like cough, cold, etc
