कात्यायनि महामाये महायोगिन्यधीश्वरि ।   नन्द गोपसुतं देविपतिं मे कुरु ते नमः ॥ Katyayani Mahamaye Mahayoginyadheeshwari । Nandgopsutam Devipatim Me Kuru te Namah ॥   Maa Katyayini is the sixth manifestation of Durga and one of the prominent deities among Navdurga. She is grandly worshipped on the sixth day of Navratri pooja. Her appearance is immensely majestic and divine. According to a legend, there was a sage named Kat. His son “Katyayana” observed a hard penance and long austerities to receive the grace of the Goddess Durga. Kata was very famous and renowned in the ancestry of saints. The Goddess was pleased with the hard penance of Maharishi Katyayana and took birth on the earth as a daughter. In texts like the Kalika Purana, it is mentioned that it was Rishi Kaytyayan who first worshipped her, hence she came to known as ' Katyayani . सिंहासनगता नित्यं पद्माश्रितकरद्वया ।     शुभदास्तु सदा देवी स्कन्दमाता यशस्विनी ॥ Sinhasan Gata Nitayam Padmashrit Kardvaya | Shubhdastu Sada Devi Skanda Mata Yashashvini || “Skand Mata” is the fifth aspect of Maa Durga and worshiped on the fifth Navratri. Devi Maa is the mother of Kumara Skanda or Kumara Kartikeya also called Lord Murugan thus revered with name 'Skanda mata'. Goddess Skanda mata mounts on the ferocious lion. Goddess Skanda mata is depicted with four handsand three eyes. In Skand mata image the Lord Skanda in his infant form is always found. She holds him in her lap. Lord Skanda is also known as Kartikeya and brother of Lord Ganesha. carries lotus flowers in her upper two hands. She holds Lord Skanda in her right upper arm and a lotus flower in her right lower hand, which is slightly raised upward.
